Nocturnal Pleasures – Island Nightlife
Once the sun sinks below the waves, a whole new vibe begins to emanate around the island’s hotspots, where sequins and” bling” shine as brightly as the sparkling stars. Don’t be surprised to even see stilettos in the sand.
The Dutch Side offers all kinds of glittering casino’s, some with superb live shows and all with high stakes excitement, and the French side offers some trendy hideaways well worth seeking out (ask a local hipster where to find them)! For those looking to barefoot boogie surfside, Taloula Mango’s in Philipsburg is a happening spot on the boardwalk right on Great Bay Beach, and getting ”irie” is required at Boom Boo Jam’s quintessential Caribbean blow-outs on Orient Bay Beach. Also at Orient Beach is Kontiki’s famous mousse party with a huge bubble-making machine. And one a month, it seems the entire island comes out to howl at the moon at Kali’s Beach Bar’s Full Moon Party on Friars Bay. But the nocturnal nexus of the island is now definitely Maho Village a magnificent quarter-mile of after sunset attractions of every ilk. The Sunset Bar & Grill (the best perch to watch the famous plane landings during the day) is the original party-hearty spot here, but now there are new libation emporiums and dinner clubs with entertainment galore.
Upscale night spots like Bliss, with its laser lights, oyster shots and covered cabanas, compete for the cool crowd with Bamboo Bernie’s lounge. Then there’s Sopranos and the piano bar Kraken (look for Johnny Depp look alike outside) attracting a lower key crowd looking to sing along. And right in the heart of it all is the legendary Cheri’s Café, a crazy outdoor emporium that combines cheesy cruise ship style entertainment with barrels of fun. But theirs is no denying that the new “IT” spot there is Tantra Nightclub & Sanctuary. This is the true celebrity magnet nightclub with coverage from international press for its”hip Asian vibe” amid a multi-level landscape and a 2,000 square foot dance floor. VIPs frequent its Opium room to enjoy the very best of cigars and signature spirits this Island has to offer.
